Disney and Pixar unwrapped a major box office gift with Toy Story 5, which is headed toward the biggest opening of the year so far of $160 million at the domestic box office. Internationally, it is pulling in $152 million, for a global start of $312 million.
The domestic launch number is the biggest of 2026 so far, topping the Super Mario Bros. Galaxy movie, which had a three-day launch of $130.9 million domestically in April. (It opened two days early for the Easter holidays and boasted a five-day number of $190.1 million.)
It’s also a record for the franchise, topping Toy Story 4‘s $120.9 million launch in 2019.
Audiences gave Toy Story 5 an A CinemaScore. Toy Story veteran Andrew Stanton directs, with Kenna Harris co-directing.
“Toy Story has been breaking ground since it first hit the screen more than 30 years ago, and it’s wonderful to see Toy Story 5 continuing that tradition and connecting with audiences around the world to deliver the biggest opening for the franchise and the biggest of this year as well,” said Alan Bergman, Chairman, Disney Entertainment Studios in a statement Monday touting its win. “Thanks to all the fans, and congratulations to our filmmakers, Andrew Stanton, Kenna Harris, and Lindsey Collins, and the Pixar team led by Pete Docter and Jim Morris, as well as our fantastic marketing and distribution teams who have helped us reach this milestone debut.”
Steven Spielberg and Universal’s original sci-fi feature Disclosure Day is falling 62 percent and is expected to earn around $17 million in its second weekend after opening to $44 million. It will end the weekend with a domestic tally of about $78.2 million and $160.4 million globally.
